The Brief
This is a typographic project that involved creating a typeface inspired by South African architecture. Along with the typeface a brochure and poster are required to display the typeface to the target audience. Exploration photography was required in order to identify shapes and characteristics within the architecture that could potentially influence the final typeface.
The classification could either be a serif or sansserif. It had to read well as body copy as well as be legible at small sizes. The typeface needed to include a-z in lowercase, A-Z in uppercase as well as numbers, basic punctuation and glyphs.

The Typeface
The Reef font is a modernistic serif typeface particularly designed for body copy in conventional, formal and classy spaces. It contains sharp edges along with all personator the specific details of the delicate building that inspired my typeface.
The Building
Gold Reef City Theme Park
Gold Reef City is an entertainment park in Johannesburg, South Africa. establishment in an old gold mine that closed in 1971, the park is themed around the gold rush that began in Witwatersrand in 1886. The structure in the park are designed to imitate the same period.
Founded in 1987 by Ben Schutte and the Krok Brothers, Gold Reef City started life as a mine tour, but the rides soon followed.
International tourist enjoy the traditional African music, dance and history offerings found throughout the complex. The carefully documented history of apartheid is a must-see when visiting South Africa.Visitors can go on tours to learn more about the history of gold and gold mining on the Witwatersrand and can see how gold is washed and melted. Also, visitors can go down into a mine and walk around in the underground tunnels.A gold reef is where the gold is found still deposited in its original rock host. In Ballarat this rock was usually quartz, in what is described as a reef. Alluvial gold was gold that had come loose from its original host, and had been deposited by water action into creeks and rivers.14
Target Audience
The Typeface's main audience includes developers as well as people who want to use a typeface that has a modern yet refined feel to it. Then it is divided up into age groups ranging from 20 to 40 years of age. It will allow the typeface to sustain its modern and classic aesthetic.
